Position:Prinicpal Mechanical Engineer
Description:BSME; PE preferred; Home base will be STL but candidate must be willing and able to travel 30-50% of the week. Approximately 15-20 years of experience required. Construction, maintenance, and unit operations experience preferred. JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS: 1. Serves as technical expert within the department. 2.Executes and performs majority of projects in the food and beverage packaging industries and executes other projects as assigned. 3.Strong ability to lead a group of engineers, designers, and drafters on assigned projects. Excellent communication skills to provide effective inter-discipline coordination on projects, project and department communication. 4.Plans and identifies upcoming tasks, potential problem areas, technical information needs, staffing priorities, and identifies and executes appropriate solutions where needed. 5.Communicates with client and ensures client preferences and input are adequately addressed and implemented in the technical design. 6.Must be available for field assignments, accept assignments involving travel 7.Strong attention to detail and capable to perform detailed technical document and drawing checking. Position requires significant exposure to vendor document review, detailed assessment of vendor design accuracy and specification compliance. 8.Capable to develop, review and check CAD mechanical and piping drawings insuring safe and constructable designs. 9.Responsible for detailing and reviewing P&ID and PFD process drawings. 10.Provide and maintain a documentation file accurately maintaining records of client comments, communications, vendor information, drawings, and calculations. 11.Skilled at managing multiple projects, priorities, and commitments. Established experience in effectively performing technical work in addition to delegating and managing other technical staff. 12.Provide strong leadership to drive technical design and project coordination. 13.Strong design knowledge and experience in the Food and Beverage industries particularly packaging line layout design and specification, filler and equipment selection, liquid and powder processing, filling, and packaging, chain and case conveying systems, palletizing and warehouse operations. 14.Develop chain, pneumatic, air, and case conveyor specification packages including conveyor sizing and speed selection. Established experience in specifying accumulation systems, sizing in-line conveyor accumulation, and packaging line and equipment capacity calculations. 15.Experienced in preparing designs compliant with cGMP and GMP including HACCP requirements and AIB specifications. 16.Established experience in line improvement studies, optimization, and debottlenecking including the preparation of the study protocol, data collection, calculations, analysis, and recommendations. 17.Develop packaging line layout including development of basic control philosophy. 18.Prepare equipment datasheets, full mechanical equipment and system specifications. Perform technical and economic evaluations, bid tabulations, and prepare recommendations. Perform equipment inspections on a limited basis where needed. Perform economic feasibility and operating studies. 19.Provide mentorship for engineers including training and personnel development. 20.Key industry experience in liquid and powder process and packaging, frozen food products, meat, nut processing ,and vegetable/fruit handling.
